Once we were
called Olive, in our more innocent days, but now we're old floozies in
tattered lingerie. Maybe the corset has gone a little tight around the
waist. Maybe we're a bit more cynical but like our new namesake Gallus
Mag, We'll bite the ears off anyone not brave enough to drink us under
the table. Look at your history books circa the 1850's, and you might find
an obscure reference to Gallus Mag an old whore who ran a bar on New York's
waterfront. She kept a collection of body parts up by the bottles of booze
- ears that she reputedly bit off rowdy patrons when they got a little
too rough with one of her girls.
And even though a year ago, another Olive with a major label deal took full legal possession of the name "Olive" they forgot about one thing -- their crappy disco music sucks. Thus, our change to Gallus Mag. But with a 24 track recording at Pedernales Studios (Willie's golf cart driving, wacky weed smoking hill country hideaway) to our credit and produced by the lovely and talented Gretchen Phillips (ex-Two Nice Girls), we're raring to go once again. The Austin Chronicle says Gallus Mag's single "invokes Stereolab, Lene Lovich and various New Zealand pop groups...enough melody and tempo shifts to keep you playing the record instead of just humming it to yourself" and Pop Culture Press described the 7" as "fragile yet earthy, pretty yet harsh; like the dream it describes, it's melodic and fuzzy."
